Project Overview

The Safe Harbor Water Power Corporation, Safe Harbor Hydroelectric Project (Safe Harbor Project) (FERC No. 1025) is located at river mile 32 on the Susquehanna River in Lancaster and York Counties in Pennsylvania. The Safe Harbor Project was constructed in 1930 and started operation in 1931 by the Safe Harbor Water Power Corporation. In 2014, Brookfield Renewable (Brookfield) took over ownership of the Safe Harbor Project. The Project consists of a 4,869-foot-long by 75-foot-high concrete gravity dam, one powerhouse located on the eastern side of the river, an impoundment, tailrace, and fish lift. The impoundment, Lake Clarke, extends approximately 10 miles upstream. As issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC or Commission), the Project operates under FERC License No. 1025 by the licensee, Safe Harbor Water Power Corporation. Safe Harbor Water Power Corporation will be pursuing a new license for the Project through the Commission’s Integrated Licensing Process. The current license for the Project, which was issued on August 14, 1980, expires on April 22, 2030.
